Seifu Yohei (1803–1861) – Master Potter of Late Edo Period Kyoto Ware
Seifu Yohei (1803–1861), who also used the art name Baishi, was a prominent Japanese potter active during the late Edo period.
In 1815, he became a disciple of renowned potter Nin’ami Dōhachi, under whom he studied the art of ceramics.
He later established his own kiln in Fushimi-Momoyama, Kyoto, where he specialized in Raku ware, as well as sometsuke (blue-and-white porcelain), white porcelain, and kinrande (gold-decorated porcelain). Seifu Yohei was especially admired for his refined technique and the elegant beauty of his works, many of which remain highly regarded to this day.
