Ji Dabin (c. 1573 – after 1620) – Master of Yixing Zisha Teapots
Ji Dabin was born in 1573 in Yixing, Jiangsu Province, and rose to prominence as a master potter during the late Wanli period of the Ming dynasty (around 1620). He is celebrated as one of the "Three Great Masters" of Yixing teapot craftsmanship, alongside Li Zhongfang and Xu Youquan.
He is also recognized as one of the "Four Great Masters" (Ji Dabin, Zhao Liang, Yuan Xi, and Mingming) who laid the foundation for classical Zisha (purple clay) teapot artistry. Trained under his father, Ji Qi, and nurtured in an environment rich in artistic tradition, Ji Dabin developed and perfected techniques that would influence Chinese literati tea culture for generations.
Ji Dabin’s works are known for their elegant form, refined proportions, and a deep understanding of how function and beauty intertwine—traits that continue to define Yixing ware to this day.
