伊東深水について

伊東深水（1898-1972）は、大正から昭和時代にかけて活躍した日本の浮世絵師、日本画家、および版画家です。彼は、歌川派浮世絵の流れをくむ美人画で広く知られ、その柔らかな筆致と日本画独特の表現で人気を博しました。本名は伊東一はじめで、女優の朝丘雪路は彼の娘です。

深水は東京生まれで、幼少期に学業を中退し、看板屋や活字工として働きながら絵画を学びました。1911年には鏑木清方に師事し、深水という号を名乗るようになりました。1912年に初めて作品が展覧会に入選し、以降、彼の画家としてのキャリアが順調に進みました。深水は、美人画を中心に、伝統的な技法を用いた作品を多く制作しました。彼の本妻・好子をモデルにした作品は評価が高く、戦後は美人画の他にも独自の題材で作品を手がけることが多くなりました。

彼はまた、教育にも熱心で、深水画塾を設立したり、青々会を立ち上げて人物画の再興を目指したりしました。彼の作品は非常に人気があり、戦後には多くの作品が複製版画として出版されました。

太平洋戦争中、深水は海軍報道班員として派遣され、外地で多くのスケッチを描きました。戦後は長野県に疎開し、1948年には『鏡』で第4回日本芸術院賞を受賞。晩年は鎌倉に移り住み、日本芸術院会員に推挙されるなど、その功績が認められました。

1972年に75歳で逝去。墓所は品川区の隆崇院にあります。伊東深水は日本画の世界で高く評価され、その繊細で美しい美人画は今日でも多くの人々に愛されています。

Shinsui Ito (1898-1972) was a Japanese ukiyo-e artist, Japanese-style painter, and printmaker who was active from the Taisho to Showa periods. He is widely known for his paintings of beautiful women that descend from the Utagawa school of ukiyo-e. His real name is Hajime Ito, and the actress Yukiji Asaoka is his daughter.

Born in Tokyo, Fukami dropped out of school at a young age and studied painting while working as a sign maker and typewriter. In 1911, he studied under Kiyokata Kaburagi and took the name Shinsui. His first painting was accepted for exhibition in 1912, and from then on his career as a painter progressed smoothly. Shinsui produced many works using traditional techniques, mainly paintings of beautiful women. His works modeled after Yoshiko, his legal wife, were highly acclaimed, and after the war, he began to create many works on his own subjects other than paintings of beautiful women.

He was also enthusiastic about education, establishing the Shinsui Painting School and establishing the Seiseikai with the aim of revitalizing portraiture. His work was very popular, and many of his works were published as reproduction prints after the war.

During the Pacific War, Fukasui was dispatched as a member of the naval press team and drew many sketches overseas. After the war, he evacuated to Nagano Prefecture, and in 1948 won the 4th Japan Art Academy Award for Mirror. In his later years, he moved to Kamakura and was recognized for his achievements, such as being recommended as a member of the Japan Art Academy.

He passed away in 1972 at the age of 75. His grave is located at Ryuso-in Temple in Shinagawa Ward. Shinsui Ito is highly regarded in the world of Japanese painting, and his delicate and beautiful paintings of beautiful women are still loved by many people today.
