栗原信について

1894年に茨城県で生まれ、1912年に茨城師範学校を卒業しました。その後、東京で図画専科訓導を務めながら絵画を描き続け、1916年に初めて二科展に入選しました。しかし、一時期は二科展に落選したことを機に小説家を志しましたが、1926年に再び絵画に戻り、フランスに留学しました。

1931年に帰国した後、その才能が認められ、昭和洋画奨励賞を受賞しました。その後は台湾や満州を旅行し、外地の風景を題材に絵を描き続けました。また、従軍画家として戦争に参加し、その経験を基に戦争画も手掛けるようになりました。

戦後、新たに第二紀会を創設し、新潟大学教授としても活躍しました。その後も欧州への写生旅行を行い、その題材を描き続けましたが、1966年に脳血栓のため倒れ、そのまま回復せずに死去しました。

Born in Ibaraki Prefecture in 1894, graduated from Ibaraki Normal School in 1912. After that, he continued to paint while working as a drawing specialist in Tokyo, and in 1916 he was selected for the Nika Exhibition for the first time. However, for a period of time he decided to become a novelist after being rejected from the Nika Exhibition, but in 1926 he returned to painting and went to France to study.

After returning to Japan in 1931, his talent was recognized and he received the Showa Western-style Painting Encouragement Prize. After that, he traveled to Taiwan and Manchuria, and continued to draw pictures based on the scenery of foreign lands. He also participated in the war as a war painter, and based on that experience, he began to work on war paintings.

After the war, he founded the second Kikai and was active as a professor at Niigata University. After that, he made a sketching trip to Europe and continued to draw the subject, but in 1966 he collapsed from a cerebral thrombosis and died without recovering.
